5 things to say to an aspiring author

Greetings to my fellow readers and aspiring writers alike. It’s mid-January, and it has been quite a slow yet relaxing month for me. I am in a bit of chaos with the schedules, I must admit. But with visiting my sister and all the other personal plans, the writing and whatnot had to go aside.

I also have an exam coming up that I need to study for by the beginning of April, meaning that’s another step back that I have to tolerate. But indeed, life is hard and despite the step-backs, I know I will always return to writing.

But let's cut the rambling and get to the article, which I dedicate to aspiring authors and to non-authors who want to support aspiring authors on their journey.

You are an amazing author

I am not telling you to lie to someone who could improve their writing style, nor am I telling you to be biased. But hearing from time to time that we are doing our jobs correctly is an irreplaceable feeling.

Most are unaware that authors and poets are one of the very few artists who deal with daily doubts. The problem is that we are forced to reread our work over and over again, especially at the editing stage. In hindsight, this eagle-eye approach is prone to make us hate our masterpieces.

Let's go to the library for an "all you can read buffet"

I mean, show me an aspiring author who does not love reading books and let alone, being surrounded by books for hours without any interruptions. On top of that, show me an aspiring author who would not like to be taken to a library outing at least once in their lifetime.

Or a book store if I am frank but that would cost a fortune and a one-kidney donation or both. Or even a liver to add to the pot.

You don't have to lose yourself for acceptance.

As an aspiring author, I am urged to please my reading audience. With this urge, I sometimes forget that by loving what I write, I am more prone to find lasting fans. It is the hard work, blood, tears and love for every single written word on the page which creates the impression of beauty. Robotic masterpieces can never replace this.

It's okay to take a rest from writing

Sometimes, with writing comes burnout and that is one of the reasons we have this thing called writer's block. That is why we need regular breaks to take care of our needs, our bodies and our health. Because who is going to write when not us?

Let's go to your favourite locations so you can get some inspiration

I mean, show me a person who does not like trips! Especially trips full of inspiration. I don't think anything else needs to be added here.

And a Bonus: Be the shoulder they need to cry on

If all else fails, know that a shoulder to cry on is one of the best remedies for an aspiring author. It resets all receptors and the author is able to return to normal in no time.

Boom! Would you look at that? You now have a happy aspiring author who thrives in his happy bubble. Not that we are pets you now have to feed and occasionally rub our bellies. But perhaps pets and we? are of the same breed, who knows.
