Dividing time for the ones in full time employment.

Time is Money. - Benjamin Franklin.

If you are like me, you would be working full-time hours sitting in the office somewhere, watching the computer screen the whole 9-5 (or a builder, engineer, cleaner sales assistant, lorry driver, doctor, nurse, etc, you get my point). On top of that, you try to dedicate your free time to a dream which may still be far ahead in the future. Not sure why, but it reminds me of a Bruno Mars song, ‘Talking to the Moon.’ (weird, I know)

It isn’t easy to find the motivation after a full day of work, to sit behind a computer screen at home again, find research and write your book and/or a blog. Trust me, I know. It may even be impossible at times. We are human, and it’s in our nature to choose the easy way every time.

Unfortunately, the easy way has never been the way to success, especially if someone does not have a well-known name yet, just like me. I still have doubts at times. However, you cannot let doubts stop you because if you don’t try, you will never know what you can achieve.

But the question wasn’t the correct way to succeed because that is almost impossible to answer in one article. In this article, I will give you my main points which help me to make time for writing in my busy schedule.

1. I mind my own business.

Try to do the minimum at your 9-5 job, without raising suspicion. This way, you can have a clearer head when you get home and try to write. If you are at any time not busy at work and your manager or boss is lenient when it comes to the usage of personal mobile phones, use that opportunity for your research and planning.

2. I use my weekends for writing.

You have to make your time and not find it and that is what I do. The two beautiful days used for relaxing by most hard-working people are used for writing in my life. This way, I can get away with skipping a day here and there if I am not feeling well or if I don’t have enough energy after work. Unfortunately, you cannot force yourself to write. It has to come to you naturally. Use weekends wisely as this is the only time you will get two whole days to do anything you want, In my case, it is writing.

3. I have a plan ahead.

If you have a list of achievements put them on paper and hang them on a noticeboard where you can see them every day. Read them every day and stick to them. I know it's easier said than done but you are the only person who truly needs to believe in yourself. No one else's opinion matters but yours. Also remember that even if there is space for improvement, only hard work can get you to your dream finish line. You can be the winner only if you try.

4. I write everything and anything.

Imagine if you dedicated yourself to writing 3,000 words each week, which is not too much if you think about it. This way, you can finish a whole 60,000-word novel in just five months. In other words, writing only under 430 words per day is not much either and can be completed in an hour. Write even if you don't have the motivation that day, even if you wrote total nonsense. Never let yourself loose the momentum and the routine.

5. I read other books for research.

Reading similar books to your book's genre can be beneficial in many aspects. Not only can you research the different writing styles used by bestselling authors, but you can also make sure your idea is original. You can also get the main ideas for your future book and make them even better. I got my idea from Slavic mythology, yet I will not stick to its rules of it, nor will I limit my imagination.

There are other ways you can manage your time better, but the above are the main 5 points anyone should follow for motivation and better timekeeping. There is also one devil called writer’s block which can be poisonous to authors, but I will not get into that in today’s article.

One other important thing we should remind ourselves every day is how good we are. We can do it. We can achieve our dreams but only if we want. You don’t have to be spiritual to believe. because if you don’t believe in this, why are you doing it?

I will leave you with that question in mind and remember; Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey said, There can be miracles when you believe.
